I’m Still Here; Are You?

Yes, it’s been quiet around here recently. There are several reasons for that. First, I’ve had several other things going on that have taken up some of the time that I might have been putting into writing posts for this blog. Second, I have to really want to write about a particular issue, and lately, there just haven’t been that many things that have really stoked the proverbial fires. Plus, of those issues that I have wanted to write about, many of them have been somewhat involved and required a fair amount of research. I like to provide links where appropriate and be sure that what I’m writing is accurate. And, at least of late, I just haven’t felt like taking the time to do the necessary research.

Which brings me to reason number three: Lack of motivation. I work hard on these posts. I know that I’m a very, very tiny blip in the online world, but I do get some hits and attention. But for all of the page hits that I get, I receive very, very few comments or interaction with readers. Even just a simple “I agree!” tells me that someone read and appreciated what I wrote. A “hey, jerk, you’re wrong” provides me an opportunity to further discuss an issue. But silence? Well, that’s a bit disconcerting.

But if I can’t even get my wife to read these posts, then I can’t very well be too upset if others don’t read what I write.

Over the years, a few people have told me that they’ve had difficulty leaving comments, apparently because of the CAPTCHA system Blogger uses. So I reluctantly removed the CAPTCHA. The good news is that I now receive 10-15 comments each day; the bad news is that every single one of them is spam. Seriously. And in the time since I disabled the CAPTCHA, I have yet to receive even a single substantive comment from a reader.

That’s depressing.

Look, I don’t want to be one of those whiny bloggers crying out for attention. After all, I started this blog as a place for me to vent. But if you like something you’ve read here, please let me know. Even better: Share my post with your social network.

Don’t worry. I’m not closing this blog. But until I feel a bit more motivated (or perhaps angry at a news story), posts may continue to be a bit sporadic. Now, with that being said, I do have something really cool that I hope to post yet this week.

So please do keep checking back. And let me know that you stopped by.

I enjoy your stuff. In some of your longer posts I may not finish in one sitting, but I usually finish.
I can even start commenting some,

See, the thing is, I have your blog posts delivered to my email box. The reason I do is because I don't want to miss anything. I find everything you write interesting. . . heck, I even liked your blow-by-blow of your family vacation last summer and I don't even know you or your family! We agree on many things on the political spectrum--a rare and beautiful thing here in central Indiana, and although I do not share your faith, I find your posts about Judaism very readable and educational, too. However, so you don't feel like you're posting and no one is reading nor cares about what you write, I will make it a point to click on the hyperlink in my email box and leave a comment. Even if it's no more than, "Preach on!" Thanks for being out here. Who you are and what you say makes a difference.
